Tourism Board App Showcase
Why
Cape Town Tourism were looking for an app in order to meet customer needs – as the volume of traffic from mobile devices and tablets increases on a monthly basis, we were not able to meet these needs effectively as our current website does not render sufficiently across multiple devices. In addition, there was a gap in the market for a content rich app to assist visitors in-destination. CTT’s website plays in the ‘plan and book’ phase, however the intention of the app is to allow us to play in the ‘in-destination’ phase.
How
Once we selected our supplier (mTrip), the process went smoothly as we made the early decision to proceed with a white label solution in order to ensure speed to market. A key element of our app was to include the voice of passionate locals and as a result, we sourced insider tips to ensure that our app content is relevant and useful for the end user.
What
The final product is the ‘Official Guide to Cape Town’ and we are extremely pleased with the look and feel of the app – it is easy to use and offers great offline functionality which is essential as the target market for our app is first time international visitors to the Mother City.
Where
The app is a long term project and the intention is to add additional features as future updates, based on user behaviour and trends. The listings will be updated and added to on an on-going basis, incorporating local insider tips wherever possible. There are opportunities to commercialise the app with our membership database, however this will be reviewed after a sufficient period has passed for the number of downloads to grow and for us to review the usage.
